My name is Darla June Franklin, my maiden name was Yow. I was born in Anna , Illinois in 1950 to Raymond W. Yow and Mary Bell Johnson Yow. Mom & Dad got divorced in 1955 at which time Mom, me, and one of my brothers moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I went to school in Cape at Franklin School, Alma Schrader School, May Greene School, Junior High in the Schultz bldg, then the new Jr High, then Central High School.
Part-way through my junior year of high school, I moved to Illinois to live with my dad and step-mother.
I currently still live in Illinois even though I never wanted to leave Cape and always wanted to move back there. I did move back to Cape when I was 19 years old but soon ended up coming back to Illinois for reasons too complicated to explain briefly. Anyway, my dream of coming back home has never come to pass.
I have many memories of the time we spent living at 1240 South Sprigg Street. The house is no longer there. It burned down several years ago.
This blog will be my place to re-live old memories and introduce you to the people who lived near me in the South Sprigg Street neighborhood during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. Hopefully you may find my memories entertaining or informative. Maybe you have some memories from that neighborhood and time also.
